Tom Wesselmann Sculpture

Additional Information: Gallery label to reverse: Fine Art Acquisitions, Weston, Florida. Work is accompanied by a copy of the purchase receipt issued by Realisation FABI, Paris, France, dated 4.2.2016. Provenance: Artist, as his contribution to a masked charity event / Realisation FABI, Paris, France / Private Collection, St. Pete Beach, Florida. Originally a cartoonist for men’s magazines, Wesselmann mastered the art of saying more with less, reducing the body to its most charged fragments: lipstick-red lips, sun-tipped curves, the merest bikini line. This wire-and-paper “Mask” applies that same economy of line, framing bright blue eyes, and proves his credo that figurative art can be every bit as immediate and electrifying as the boldest abstraction.
